Margaret “Peggy” Rebecca Wayne McReynolds, 80, Vero Beach

Margaret “Peggy” Rebecca Wayne McReynolds, 80, died May 6, 2011, in Tucson, Ariz., after a prolonged battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

She was born in Columbia, S.C., and lived in Vero Beach from 1961 to 2010.

She taught English at Vero Beach High School until 1966.

In 1969, she became a guidance counselor at Indian River Community College and the director of financial aid.

In 1974, she opened her own business, the Craft Corner.

In 1977, she joined the Florida State Health and Human Services, where she was an adoptions counselor until her retirement in 1992.

She was active member of the First United Methodist Church of Vero Beach and a supporter of the First United Methodist Children’s Home.

After her retirement, she continued her work with Dollars for Scholars and became involved in the Vero Beach Theater Guild.

She graduated from William and Mary College in 1951 and completed a master’s degree at the University of Virginia in 1966.

Survivors include sons, Herbert A. McReynolds Jr., and Samuel A. “Tony” McReynolds; stepson, Guilherme Barbosa, of Florianopolis, Brazil; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnie; sister, Gertrude Chandler; brother, Edward A. Wayne Jr.; and grandson, Christopher Curtis.

Services will be in Tucson at the family’s request.

Arrangements are by Desert Sunset Funeral Home, Tucson.
