James W. Young Sr., 81, died May 18, 2011, at his home.
He was born in Clendenin, W.Va., and lived in Vero Beach for nine years, coming from his birthplace.
He was a graduate of Greenbrier Military School in Lewisburg, W.Va., and served in the Navy during the Korean War.
He was the owner and operator of Young’s Brother Grocery Store in Clendenin.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Clendenin.
Survivors include his son, James W. Young Jr.; daughters, Mary Jane Mills, Beth Atamer and Amy Lore, all of Vero Beach; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Young; sister, Helen Pelton; and brother, Bobbie Young.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. May 20 at Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home in Vero Beach.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. May 21 at the funeral home, with the Rev. Gary Moore officiating.
Entombment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Garden in Fort Pierce.
