Woman, 84, died after single-car crash in Vero Beach

VERO BEACH — An 84-year-old woman is dead following a single-vehicle crash that occurred Wednesday morning in the area of State Road 60 and 20th Avenue.

The Vero Beach Police Department responded to the crash at 10:10 a.m. south of SR 60. The driver, identified as Doris Vilandre, of the 3200 block of 1st Street, Vero Beach. According to witnesses and the subsequent investigation, Vilandre’s Nissan Sentra was traveling north on 20th Avenue approaching SR 60 when it struck and jumped the curb on the eastside of the road. The Nissan then traveled a short distance before striking a tree.

Vilandre was transported to Indian River Medical Center where she later died.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Clearwater police ID victims in Thursday fatal plane crash

CLEARWATER — Police identified a Melbourne Beach man as the pilot of a plane that experienced an engine failure before crashing into a mobile home unit late Thursday, killing three people. The impact killed the man along with two women who were in the residence. Officers also released the identities of the women. Man walking on tracks struck by Brightline in Indian River County

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A man walking on the railroad tracks was struck and killed by a 110-mph northbound Brightline train late Monday, sheriff's officials said. This is the first fatality involving Brightline to occur in Indian River County, sheriff's spokesperson Sgt. Kevin Jaworski said. "At 9:59 p.m., a conductor with Brightline called into 911 stating that the train struck a pedestrian trespassing on the tracks," Jaworski said.
