Edward Champion (Eddie) Dancy Jr., 83, died May 1, 2011, in Vero Beach.
Dancy was a lifelong resident of Indian River County. He held various occupations throughout his life including working for International Harvester, a Texaco service station operator and the co-owner of Vero Safety Center.
An avid beekeeper, he was the owner of E&E Enterprises.
He also participated in the family citrus business in Wabasso for his entire life.
As a member of the Jaycees, he helped to construct Jaycee Park at Jaycee Beach.
He was also an active member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans in the 1st Florida Cow Cavalry Camp 1680.
He was a naval war veteran from WWII and a member of First United Methodist Church in Vero Beach.
He was a fatherly figure and friend to countless people in the community.
Survivors include his wife Rosanna S. Dancy, of Vero Beach; brother, Francis Littlebury Dancy and wife, Betty, of Ft. Pierce; daughters Mary Ruth Dancy and René Harden, of Rangely, Colo, Carol D. Conner and grandson Robert M. Conner, of St. Simons Island, Ga.; son Edward Champion III and Michelle Dancy and granddaughter Lauren Dancy, of Sebastian; and many close friends such as Susan and Matthew Shaw, of Vero Beach, Chris and Cindy Claflin, of St. Cloud, Mari Barber, of Vero Beach, Julie Torres, of Connecticut and many others.
Visitation will be at Strunk Funeral Home, 916 17th Street, Vero Beach on Wednesday, May 4th at 7-9 p.m. and the service will be at the First United Methodist Church, 1750 20th Street, Vero Beach on Thursday, May 5th at 1:30 P.M. with the Reverend Richard Flick officiating.
