Bishop Charles Black, 98, died April 22, 2011, at the VNA Hospice House, Vero Beach.
He was born in Sanford and lived in Wabasso. He received his elementary and secondary education in Seminole County schools. He worked for the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia for many years. For 60 years, he was a preacher, teacher and pastor.
He founded the Bridgeton Church of God in Philadelphia in 1954.
This was the first church established under his leadership.
He established two other missions, the Glassboro and Deptford Church of God in New Jersey.
Survivors include his son, Robert Black; sister, Christine Childes, brother, James Walter Jones Jr.; two grandchildren; three great-grand-children; and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. April 30 at the Wabasso Church of God.
Services will be at 11 a.m. with Bishop John Throne, pastor, officiating.
Interment will follow in West Wabasso Cemetery.
