FELLSMERE – The City of Fellsmere will get a jump start on its centennial birthday celebration this evening with a Street Dance along Broadway in front of Marsh Landing.
The city has a full day planned for Saturday and officials hope people come early for the pancake breakfast and stay late for a laser light show.
Tonight’s festivities run from 7 to 10 p.m. with music from the Lighterknot Boys.
The celebrations mark the 100th anniversary of the city’s incorporation, which occurred in 1911.
Here is a schedule for Saturday’s festivities:
7-10 a.m. – Fellsmere Lions Club Pancake Breakfast
11 a.m. – Food, craft and informational booths open
11 a.m. – Fellsmere Day Parade starts
12:30-2:30 p.m. – Atlantic Bluegrass band performs
1 p.m. – Historical tours begin
2:30 p.m. – Flag Raising Ceremony
2:45 p.m. – Grand Marshal Presentation – Marsh Landing Restaurant owner Fran Adams
3-4 p.m. – Dedication of the Old Fellsmere School
4-4:15 p.m. – Fellsmere Folkloric Dancers
4:15-5 p.m. – Little Mr./Miss Fellsmere Pageant
5-5:15 p.m. – Our Lady of Guadalupe Dancers
5-6 p.m. – Fellsmere Historical Lecture in Old School auditorium
5:30-7:30 p.m. – Herencia Norteña Mexican band performs
7:30 p.m. – Piñata contest
7:30-9:30 p.m. – Nouveaux Honkies band performs
9:30 p.m. – Laser Light Show
The parade at 11 a.m. will force some Fellsmere roads to be closed.
The parade route is as follows:
Beginning at the intersection of S. Cypress Street and CR512, east on CR512 to Broadway (CR507), north on Broadway to South Carolina Avenue, south on N. Broadway to CR512, across CR512 to S. Broadway.
The closed roads will be:
CR512 from S. Cypress Street to CR507 (Broadway)
Broadway north and south from CR512 to South Carolina
South Carolina at North Broadway
A detour route will be posted.
