New judge added to Dancing with Vero’s Stars competition

VERO BEACH — The time is drawing to an end to place “A Dollar for a Vote” for your favorite dancer in the Indian River County Healthy Start Coalition’s Dancing with Vero’s Stars competition. Dancing with Vero’s Stars begins at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, March 12 at the Waxlax Center for the Performing Arts at Saint Edward’s Upper School.

This much anticipated event offers hors d’oeuvres, dessert, drinks and of course, grand performances. The audience will cheer for the star dancers and their instructors who have devoted their spare time to prepare for this special event. Every vote for your favorite star dancer is a dollar raised for the Healthy Start Coalition and new parents. The Web site, can be visited through the evening of March 11 to cast votes and to purchase tickets, if they are still available.

Your advance online votes will be added to any votes you cast during the event and combined with the final tally by the judges – Lance Sexton of Melbourne Ballroom, Gretchen Rose of Island Home Interiors, and new judge Adam Schnell of Riverside Theatre. This year Sexton, who competed professionally for 10 years and has won numerous dancing championships and titles during his career, will be performing for the audience.

The committee is excited to have Adam Schnell as a new judge.  As a professional dancer, Schnell has performed with the Channel Islands Ballet, Omaha Theater Ballet, Sarasota Ballet of Florida, and Nevada Ballet Theater. His dance and theater choreography has been seen all over the United States and he has served as resident choreographer for both the Omaha Theater Ballet and Sarasota Ballet of Florida.

Since moving to Vero Beach in the fall of 2009 he has served as a faculty member for Riverside Children’s Theatre and has been instrumental in shaping that organization’s new “Dance Conservatory at Riverside”. This past December his “The Nutcracker: In Swingtime!” premiered at RCT to sold out audiences and critical acclaim.

Tickets are $100 each, VIP seating is sold out.
