Dr. Homer F. “Fritz” Schroeder, 90, died Dec. 19, 2010, at Well Spring Care Center in Greensboro, N.C.
He was born in Leipsic, Ohio, and lived in Vero Beach.
Before retirement, he was in private practice specializing in obstetrics and gynecology in Toledo, Ohio.
He also served on staff for St. Charles Hospital, where he was director of the OB/GYN department from 1958 to 1970; St. Vincent’s Hospital and Mercy Hospital, where he was director of the OB/GYN department from 1966 to 1984 and chief of staff from 1984 to 1986; and Medical College of Ohio at Toledo, where he was clinical professor of the OB/GYN department from 1976 to 1989.
He was a Naval Reserve veteran from 1946 to 1958.
He was a member of the Academy of Medicine of Toledo and Lucas County; Ohio State Medical Association; American Fertility Society; and Gynecologic Laser Society, where he was a founding member; Toastmasters’ International, where he was director from 1977 to 1979; “Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America” Vero Beach Chapter; and Lincoln Auto Owners Club. He attended DeSales College in Toledo and graduated from the University of Toledo in 1943, St. Louis University School of Medicine in 1946 and University of Pennsylvania School of Graduate Medicine in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1950.
Survivors include his sons, Charles Schroeder, of City Island, N.Y., and Eric Schroeder, of Grand Haven, Mich.; daughters, Catherine Carter, of Liberty, N.C., Donna D’Jernes, of Cary, N.C., and Laura Center, of Evans Lake, Mich.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet; and son, Paul.

A memorial service and celebration of life will be at 1 p.m. Dec. 23 at Well Springs in Greensboro, N.C., followed by visitation.
