Handel’s Messiah to be presented by First Baptist Church

VERO BEACH — For the 41st consecutive year, George Fredric Handel’s inspiring oratorio “Messiah” will be presented by the First Baptist Church of Vero Beach as a Christmas gift to the community.

The performances will be held at the First Baptist Church, 2206 16th Avenue, Vero Beach, on Saturday, December 18 and Sunday, December 19 beginning at 7 p.m. Directed by the church’s Minister of Music and Worship, Michael Carter, “Messiah” will be performed by the singers of the Treasure Coast Chorale joined by other local choir members, four world-class soloists and instrumentalists of the Atlantic Classical Orchestra.

Although there is no charge to attend the concert, a free-will offering will be taken to help defray some of the expenses of this glorious, inspirational concert.  Additional donations and sponsorships are welcome.

The “Messiah”, written in 1741, tells the story of the life of Christ in aria, recitative and chorus. It will be sung by four professional soloists and a chorus of approximately 100 voices.  The soloists include Soprano Kandie Smith, Mezzo-Soprano Jane Christesson, Tenor Norton Christesson and Bass David Stork.  Additional artists will be Jill Truax on the organ and Brady Johnson on the harpsichord.

Members of the audience will be invited to join the singers for the joyous “Hallelujah Chorus.”  For more information on the concert or sponsorship opportunities, please call the church office at 772-567-4341.
