VERO BEACH – The Moorings Literary Society is hosting a special luncheon at The Moorings Club at noon on Monday, December 6 to benefit the Environmental Learning Center. The luncheon will feature the well-known, Florida author, Carl Hiaasen, promoting his new novel, “Star Island.” This is the latest book by an author who has published more than twenty best-selling novels.
This event, which promises to be one of the highlights of the Vero Beach literary season, is open to the public. Tickets must be obtained in advance and space is limited. The cost, including lunch, lecture, and signed copy of “Star Island” is $75, or $100 for Skink Club Benefactors. (If you are a Hiaasen fan, you will recognize Skink as one of his memorable characters.) Hiaasen and The Moorings Literary Society both generously selected the non-profit Environmental Learning Center to receive the luncheon proceeds.
Hiaasen, now a Vero Beach resident, states that true events taking place in South Florida provide the best fodder for his successful novels. During a recent appearance on CBS’s 60 Minutes he described a number of “unlikely” news stories that formed the basis for his characters, such as a man sleeping with two full-grown alligators.
For tickets, call the Moorings Club at 772-231-1008.
