VERO BEACH — September is ‘Workforce Development Month’ and Workforce Solutions is celebrating with various events on Florida’s Research Coast.The Vero Beach open house will be held from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 8 at Workforce Development office at 1880 82nd Avenue, Suites 101 & 102. The event will be preceded by a County Commission proclamation declaring September 1-30, 2010 ‘Workforce Development Month’.
“We hope the community will come out to one of the four open houses,” the Chief Executive Officer of Workforce Solutions Gwenda Thompson said. “It’s the perfect way for them to better understand how we are helping their neighbors on a daily basis.”
Between January 1 and June 30 of this year, Workforce Solutions served over 35,000 individuals on the Research Coast and has provided close to 430,000 services to job seekers. Services to job seekers include career planning assistance, resume services, customized workshops and access to phones, fax, copier and computers.
During the same time period, Workforce Solutions provided over 15,500 services to area employers. These services include labor market information, pre-screening of potential candidates, and qualified candidate referrals.
Most services to job seekers and employers are complimentary. Workforce Solutions receives federal and state grants to provide programs and services through career centers on Florida’s Research Coast.
Workforce Solutions is a private, non-profit, Florida corporation with a Board of Directors consisting of private business, economic development and education representatives, community and state agencies, and elected officials.
