VERO BEACH – The third annual Skim Jam to benefit St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital will kick off at 9:30 a.m. Saturday for as many as 70 competitors.
“We’re always looking for skim boarders,” organizer Chris Ellison said.
Competitors have until 9 a.m. to register in one of four divisions: I Suck/Beginner, I’m Good/Intermediate, I’m Better/Advanced, and I’m Going Pro Tomorrow/Expert. The competition is open to people of all ages. However, those under 18 must have a signed form from their parents or guardians before competition.
Seventy skim boarders in the water off Mulligan’s is what organizers had last year. They hope to recreate the same this weekend.
Ellison said the purpose of the annual event is to help out St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. He and his fellow organizers plan to travel to Memphis, Tenn., to hand-deliver the monies raised through Skim Jam 2010.
He said it would be the first time they’ve made the donation in person. Before, they would just mail the donation.
