Call to Artists for Valentine’s Plein Air Paint Out

VERO BEACH – The Cultural Council of Indian River County has issued a Call to Artists for the I Love Vero Beach Valentine’s Weekend Plein Air Paint Out, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. the weekend of February 11 to 13.

NO FEE! Paint en plein air at two locations in Vero Beach: The buildings, neighborhoods and parks in Historic Downtown, and Beachside on the Barrier Island.

Two dimensional work only in any medium except photography. Artists must be at least 18 years of age – all levels of experience are welcome.

Artists must be registered by November 30 to participate in this event!

Low beach attendance for January; no water rescues

VERO BEACH — While chilly temperatures caused a drop in beach attendance last month, lifeguards are happy to report that there were no water rescues that occurred in January. Fertilizer restrictions to go into effect next month

A reminder from the Indian River Neighborhood Association to residents of Indian River County, City of Vero Beach, Sebastian and Orchid. We are coming into our rainy season when more nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorous are likely to be washed from our lawns, driveways and roads into the storm water system and, ultimately, into our local waterways such as the Indian River Lagoon. The fertilizer ordinances passed by our communities goes into effect June 1st. It prohibits the use of lawn fertilizer between June 1st and September 30th. ‘No swimming’ advisory lifted for beaches, officials say

VERO BEACH — Authorities lifted a 'no swimming' advisory for three local beaches Tuesday after test samples showed that bacteria returned to normal levels, health department and city officials said. The result means it was safe to return to the water Tuesday, Vero Beach city officials said. The advisory - which was in place for nearly a week - was issued Jan. 31 for South Beach, Humiston Beach and Sexton Plaza Beach after high levels of fecal-related bacteria were reported at the locations.
