2 Vero Beach parks could get $95,000 playground, lighting improvements

VERO BEACH – The Vero Beach City Council will consider allocating more than $95,000 for improvements at two neighborhood parks at the regular meeting tomorrow morning.

The funds are coming from a state grant, and would offset the expense of both playground equipment and lighting at Jacoby and Piece of Pie parks.

City Manager Jim Gabbard is expected to present a contract with Lanier Plans, Inc., to the city council, which includes a Community Development Block Grant from the Florida Department of Community Affairs.

In January, the city received seven bids from contractors to install new playgrounds at the two neighborhood parks and in March awarded a contract to Lanier Plans (also known as Korkat). At that time, city officials learned that the contractor could also performed the lighting work needed at the parks.

The Department of Community Affairs told the city it could modify the contract with Korkat to perform the additional $49,000 worth of lighting at Jacoby and Piece of Pie.

Jacoby Park is located at 19th Street and 25th Avenue and Piece of Pie is near 37th Avenue and Atlantic Boulevard.
