VERO BEACH — By unanimous vote, the Rev. Scott Alexander has been called to serve as minister of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Vero Beach. His ministry will begin in August, and he will be in the pulpit as of September 5.
Rev. Alexander has been senior minister of the River Road Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Bethesda, MD, for the past 12 years. With nearly 36 years of experience as a UU minister, Rev. Alexander also served as senior minister of the denomination-wide Church of the Larger Fellowship, and was pastor at both the First Unitarian Society of Plainfield, NJ, and at the First Church of Houlton, ME. Before settling at River Road, he was director of the Unitarian Universalist Association´s Office of Lesbian and Gay Concerns, and the AIDS Action and Information Program.
Rev. Alexander received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Urban Studies at Lawrence University in Wisconsin (Phi Beta Kappa, Magna Cum Laude), a Master of Divinity degree from Thomas Starr King School for the Ministry in California, and Clinical Pastoral Education at the Memphis Institute for Medicine and Religion.
He is the editor or author of five books, has been an adjunct professor of homiletics at Andover Newton Theological School, and teaches preaching at other seminars around the continent. He is a widely sought after speaker, preacher and workshop leader in Unitarian Universalist circles, and is widely respected as a dynamic, inspiring and thoughtful leader.
Rev. Dr. Maureen Killoran has served as UUFVB interim minister since August 2008, and will be heading for interim ministry at another congregation.
