Margaret Aylward Hetherington, 91, of Vero and West Palm beaches, was born Oct. 27, 1918 to Laura and Albert Renouf in St. Johns, Newfoundland, Canada.
She met her husband Lt. Col. Joseph J. Aylward in St. Johns. He was stationed there for World War II.
After the war ended they lived in West Englewood, New Jersey and later moving to Stamford, Conn.
Margaret taught second grade in Stamford for many years.
Mr. Aylward predeceased her in 1966.
She later married Robert A. Hetherington, Sr. in 1975 and moved to John’s Island where she enjoyed playing golf and playing bridge with her many friends. Mr. Hetherington predeceased her in 1995.
She will always be remembered for her devotion to her family, her strong Catholic faith, her sense of humor and her incredible zest for life. S
She is survived by her son John J. Aylward of West Palm Beach, and three daughters, Judith A. Truett of West Palm and Atlantic beaches, Florida and Laura A. Tran (An) of Pinole, Calif., Jennifer A. Robert (Charlie) of Saratoga, Calif., three step-children, Robert Hetherington, Jr. (Jean) of Ashville, N.C., Robert Hetherington, III (Rebecca) of Williamsburg, Va., and Jane Presto of Los Gatos, Calif.
She is also survived by her greatest treasures of 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
The Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 14, 2010 at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church, in Vero Beach.
Family requests that donations in Margaret’s memory be made to Catholic Social Services via St. John of the Cross Catholic Church.
