Vero Beach honored Jackie Robinson as the Jupiter Hammerheads took on the Palm Beach Frozen Iguanas (aka Palm Beach Cardinals) at historic Holman Stadium, where Robinson trained and played as the first Black player in Major League Baseball.

“The Jackie Robinson Training Complex is proud to host this special event each year,” Rachelle Madrigal, vice president of the Jackie Robinson Training Complex, said in a statement. “It’s an opportunity to celebrate history while creating a memorable experience for fans and supporting important work happening in our community.”

The annual match took place on Wednesday, April 15 at the Jackie Robinson Training Complex, located at 43rd Avenue and Aviation Boulevard in Vero Beach.

Hosted by United Way of Indian River County, the annual game named after Robinson attracted 2,900 fans and raised approximately $30,000 for local charities. The Iguanas defeated the Hammerheads 4-2.

“The Jackie Robinson Celebration Game is such a meaningful opportunity for our community to come together,” Meredith Egan, CEO of United Way of Indian River County, said in a statement.

“While we honor Jackie Robinson’s legacy, we’re also creating real impact right here at home. Every ticket sold helps support programs that strengthen local families and ensure our community continues to thrive.”
