William Young Humphreys III, 85, Vero Beach

William Young Humphreys III, 85, passed away in his home in Vero Beach on May 31, 2010.

He was born August 31, 1924, in Pittsburgh. He graduated from M.I.T. with a degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering and worked for Westinghouse Electric in Pittsburgh for many years before moving to Fenwal, Inc. in Ashland, Mass.

He later served as President of the Autocall division of Federal Sign and Signal Corporation.

In 1946, he married Jayne Wade Madden and raised five children. He was preceded in death by Jayne and two of his daughters, Heidi Horne Humphreys and Wendy Anne Swain.

He later married Susan Brooks of St. Louis and Georgia Rea of Toledo, Ohio, both of whom preceded him in death.

He is survived by Judy Meagher of Dallas, Jan Yount of Winchester, Va., and David Humphreys of Hyannis Port, Mass., as well as six grandchildren.

He was a beloved father, grandfather, and dear friend to many. Though sorely missed, he will remain forever in our hearts.

A private cremation service will be held by his family. A public celebration of Bill’s life will follow in autumn.
