SEBASTIAN – Tonight is the second to last concert in the Concert in the Park series at Sebastian’s Riverview Park and will feature Nouveaux Honkies.
“They are rising stars in the music world,” organizer Beth Mitchell said of the group. They are a mix of blues, swing and early country with a violinist who puts a new twist on classical training.
“She is very funky and very talented,” Mitchell said.
The concert begins at 5:30 p.m. and is expected to draw a few hundred people. Mitchell recommends concertgoers bring their own chairs or blankets as the bleachers fill very quickly.
“It’s a lot of fun,” she said of the concert series.
For the last 11 years, the Sebastian River Area Chamber of Commerce has been sponsoring the Concert in the Park series – for as long as Mitchell has been with the Chamber.
“Every year the series seems to get more popular,” Mitchell said.
The concerts’ attendance now averages between 300 and 500 people, she estimated.
“It’s been very well received,” Mitchell said.
The last concert in this season’s series will be held June 18 with local musicians MJ Wicker and Matt Manning.
Mitchell said Wicker’s music could be described as soft rock in a Jimmy Buffett style.
There will be food and refreshments available for purchase at the park. Concertgoers should also bring a flashlight as the concert runs until 8 p.m. For more information, call the Chamber at (772) 589-5969.
