Warren Raymond Smith, 86, passed away at his residence in Indian River Estates on March 5, 2010.
Mr. Smith was born on May, 13, 1923 in Philadelphia to Raymond and Ella Smith. He began a career as a machinist mate, and then later joined the Navy and spent 25 years as a pilot and retired as a Lieutenant Commander.
Upon his retirement from the military he was a flight instructor for Flight Safety of Vero Beach.
Mr. Smith was a member of the Masonic order for 52 years, and a member of the Military Officers Association for 10 years.
He spent his free time enjoying the outdoors as an avid walker and in his younger years a running enthusiast. When the weather permitted he would swim 30 laps a day in the community pool.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Ella; daughter, Sharon Paulovic; grandchildren, Tawny and Tami Mayer.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Sarah (Sally) Smith of Vero Beach; sister, Vilot Freeman; nephews, Lee Freeman, Jerry Freeman and niece, Jill Freeman all of Philadelphia.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at 2 p.m. in the chapel located at Indian River Estates off of State Road 60 in Vero Beach.
