VERO BEACH — The Vero Beach Theatre Guild will come alive with “The Sound of Music” when the most beloved Rodgers and Hammerstein musical of all time takes the stage March 11 to 28.
The musical is based on the true story written by Maria von Trapp about the Von Trapp family singers. This last collaboration between Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II is both a Broadway musical and movie deemed culturally, historically and aesthetically significant.
Set in Austria prior to World War II, Maria Kutschera, a free-spirited postulant from a strict Salzburg Abbey accepts a position to govern a widowed military commander’s seven lively children. It’s a merry-go-round of ups-and-downs between the children, the commander and his new romantic interest as the governess introduces the family to the joy of living in harmony through music and singing.
Directed by Tony Della Rocca and Assistant Director Art Haeberle, among the large cast members are Leigh Seirafi as Maria Von Trapp and James Mitchell as Naval officer Capt. Georg Ritter von Trapp.
Portraying the captain’s children will be Erin McDonald, Ryan Roberson, Kelli Adams, Taylor James Walker, Shae McDonald, Kendra Osborn and Julia Weinbrecht.
Other performers are: Martha Kelly, Amy Woods, Donna Roberts, Deborah Chastain, David Panula, Eve Pickart, Jay Wiggins, Glynis Sherman, Scott Freshley, Robin Volsky, Tom Walker, Art Haeberle, Elizabeth Craig, Ruth Haeberle, Crystal Kepler, Lizzie Simons, Robin Spalin, Taylor Williams, Donna Walker and Kristen Yoshitani.
Assisting Della Rocca and Haeberle will be Sara Dessureau, stage manager; Colleen Brennan, choreographer; James Kepler, music director; Michael Kadish, producer; Denise Lee, production manager; Iris Tapley and Dottie Hays-Geisler, pianists.
Chairs Ann McCabe and Anne Talbot handle costumes and props, respectively. Hair and make-up is by Madelyn Rogers; lighting, Robbie Messersmith; and sound, Edward Dessureau.
