River’s Edge homes without water when mowing crew hits water main

SEBASTIAN — County water customers were without water briefly Wednesday morning after a mowing crew hit a 2-inch water main near the River’s Edge subdivision located near the Sebastian Municipal Airport.

Repairs were made to the main and water was restored. However, affected customers are required to boil their water before using until told otherwise. Four properties were affected on Sunset Drive.

The Indian River County Utilities Department advises that all water used for the following be boiled (a rolling boil of one minute is sufficient):

Drinking

Cooking

Making ice

Brushing teeth

Hand washing dishes

Bottled water may be used as an alternative.

This boil water notice will remain in effect until a bacteriological survey shows that the water is safe to drink. The department is unable to provide an exact time of survey completion, though it should be no more than 72 hours.

A rescission notice will be distributed.
