WABASSO ISLAND – Our Indian River Lagoon and its tributaries have one of the most diverse environments on earth. A wonderful way to explore and learn about this fascinating mix is to take some of the canoe and kayak trips offered by the Environmental Learning Center. Two and one-half to three hour guided trips are scheduled from sunrise to sunset for a number of days during the next three months.
Canoe and kayak trips offer a unique experience. These maneuverable and quiet watercraft with shallow draft, offer the opportunity to see nature, close-up, and undisturbed.
Experienced guides lead each trip, providing canoe and kayak instruction, when needed and providing appropriate background and historical perspective for the sights seen.
Costs for the canoe trips are $15 per adult and $7 for children, and for kayak trips, $35 for adults. Canoes, kayaks and appropriate gear are included in the fee. Minimum age is 8 years old for the kayak excursions and 10 years old for the canoe excursions. Dates and times for the trips are available at www.DiscoverELC.org or by calling for a schedule to be mailed. For additional information and reservations call 772-589-5050
