FELLSMERE and SEBASTIAN — Two brush fires near Fellsmere and Sebastian have been extinguished, according to Fire Rescue officials.
The first fire was reported near mile marker 158 on the southbound side of Interstate 95. The second fire was in the area of Main Street and Powerline Road in Sebastian.
In both cases, the fires were small, only 10 feet square, said Fire Chief Brian Nolan. Both fires were quickly put out, he added.
While the cause of the fires has not been officially released, Nolan said it could have been in human error that a heat source – perhaps a discarded smoking item – may have been discarded, igniting the fires.
At no time were roads shut down for the fires, Nolan said. Structures, too, were in no immediate danger from the flames.
