OKEECHOBEE — Senior RB Fred Macon led a parade of Sebastian River ball carriers that gained 196 yards en route to a 35-7 triumph over Okeechobee Friday night. The Sharks scored 28 unanswered points to improve to 1-2.Starting its third quarterback this year, Okeechobee (0-3) has a young team that will need some breaks to not finish the year winless. Conversely, Sebastian QB’s went 10 of 12 passing for 121 yards, paced by junior Wesley Wilson’s went 7 of 9 performance for 82 yards. Wide receiver Stephon Clark caught 6 passes for 60 yards. Tight End Evan Brown chipped in with 2 catches for 40 yards and a TD reception.
Macon led all rushers with 69 yards on only 7 carries, and Niko Finnegan scored 2 Tds for the Sharks. The stingy Sharks defense held the Brahmans to 111 total yards on offense, and intercepted two passes.
After being outscored 26-49 in its first two games this year, SRHS needed a confidence builder going into district play. The Sharks host Jensen Beach next Friday to open district competition for both teams.
Jensen Beach beat a talented Warner Christian Academy last week, but there is speculation that Warner treated the game like a scrimmage. Jensen Beach is a talented team and will surely test Sebastian River next week.
