Youth Guidance Wins Mentors at Kickoff for Kids

VERO BEACH — The NFL kickoff weekend brought a lot of surprises for football fans and many potential mentors to Youth Guidance at their inaugural Kickoff for Kids Mentor Mixer, held at the Club at Pointe West in Vero Beach.  Individuals interested in spending just two hours a week mentoring a Youth Guidance child attended the Mentor Mixer sponsored by the Youth Guidance Mentoring & Activities Program of Indian River County.   The Mentor Mixer attendees enjoyed NFL football on big screen televisions and discovered what becoming a mentor could do for them as well as the child.  The mixer was designed for individuals to learn how easy it is to become a mentor and make a positive impact in a child’s life.  There were raffle prizes, tailgate munchies, a 50/50 raffle and the Guidance Gallery.  The Guidance Gallery is a board featuring 80 Youth Guidance children who need mentors and is available for organizations or businesses to display in their lobbies to help recruit mentors. The primary purpose of Youth Guidance is to match each of its 700 at-risk K-12 children with a volunteer mentor 17 years and older.  Mentors spend just a few hours a week with their mentee.  The agency is actively seeking volunteers to serve as mentors, tutors or periodic volunteers at a special activity or to provide regular help in the office.Information:  Call Barbara Schlitt Ford at (772) 770-5040 or visit www.ircyouth.com.
