Sebastian will go to the dogs Saturday with opening of Keen dog park

SEBASTIAN — The City of Sebastian will be overrun with dogs Saturday morning as officials open the city’s first dog park.

“It’s been a long process,” said City Manager Al Minner, adding that it has been more than a year – possibly two – in the making. The dog park will celebrate its grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9 a.m. The 1 1/2-acre park is located on Keen Terrace, a quarter-mile from Wimbrow Drive.

The council approved $58,000 for the project, including landscaping, fencing, water and electric, and parking.

“I think it turned out real nice,” Minner said.

There are two covered picnick tables, water fountains and trash cans. Restrooms, however, are not there.

“It’s too soon to tell,” Minner said of the possibility of adding restroom facilities to the site.
