VERO BEACH — The family of a woman killed in a drug raid will release the medical examiner’s report on her death this Friday, according to a family spokesman.
Community activist Michael Marsh will host a news conference revealing details of Alteria Woods’ autopsy report from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at the Indian River County Courthouse, 2000 16th Ave., Vero Beach, said Marsh, 33.
Sheriff Deryl Loar previously said that Woods was shot by “one of the rounds” from deputies, that her boyfriend Andrew Coffee IV used her as a human shield and that she was pregnant.
“We are pushing for an outside investigation and will show the human shield and pregnancy (theories) were lies devised by the Sheriff’s Office,” Marsh said. Woods’ death certificate shows she was shot multiple times.
Woods was fatally shot by deputies during a March 19 drug raid at a home in Gifford. Woods, 21, was lying on a bed with Coffee IV at a home in the 4500 block of 35th Avenue when deputies exchanged gunfire with her boyfriend.
The deputies who fired in the raid were cleared of wrongdoing by a grand jury July 19. At the same time, the jury indicted Coffee IV for the death of Woods, even though she was killed by deputies.
They also formally charged Coffee IV with throwing a deadly missile, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and three counts of attempted first degree murder on a law enforcement officer by discharging a firearm.
