Patricia Halsey Shannon, 82, former Vero Beach

Patricia Halsey Shannon, 82, former resident of Vero Beach and New Canaan, Conn., died on Sunday, April 24, 2011, at The Cascades Verdae in Greenville, S.C.

Born on September 25, 1928, in Charlottesville, Va., she was the daughter of the late Robert V. and Caroline Paull Halsey. A graduate of The Walnut Hill School and Barnard College, she married William Searcy Shannon and had five children.

In 1966 she received a teaching certificate from Los Angeles State.

She was a member of The Community Church of Vero Beach and of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in New Canaan.

She was a tennis player at The Field Club in New Canaan and at Sea Oaks in Vero Beach.

She enjoyed her family and friend’s activities, current events, books, needlepoint, gardening and spending time with family at the beach.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, William S. Shannon, and four children: William Shannon Jr. and his wife Marsha, of Carmel, Ind., Caroline Yama and her husband Frederick, of Clinton, N.J., Henrietta Shannon, of Greenville, S.C., and Sarah Moncho and her husband Jeffrey, of Orlando.

She was predeceased by her daughter Frances Allison, wife of Robert Allison of Redding, CT.

She has seven granddaughters and a brother, Robert V. Halsey Jr., of Newberry.

A family memorial service was held on April 30, 2011, in Greenville, S.C.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
