Earl MacKenzie Jr., 80, Vero Beach

Earl MacKenzie Jr., 80, died Sept. 2, 2010, at the Wingate in Andover, Mass.

He was born and raised in Quincy, Mass., and lived in Vero Beach. Before retirement, he was a purchasing manager for the Gillette Co. in Andover. Prior to that, he worked for the Pneumatic Scale Co. in Braintree, Mass., and Atlanta.

He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, serving as a paratrooper with the 11th Airborne Division, stationed at Fort Campbell, Ky.

He belonged to the Cranberry Valley Club in Harwich, Mass., Pointe West Club in Vero Beach and Highland Greens in Topsham, Maine.

He was a lifetime member of the Masons of Massachusetts and a volunteer at the Vero Beach Theatre Guild and Sebastian Inlet State Park. He graduated from Northeastern University in Boston with a degree in business administration.

Survivors include his wife Jeanne (Emmerson) MacKenzie, of Vero Beach; son, Kenneth MacKenzie, of Andover; daughter, Deborah Evans, of Andover; step-daughter, Cathleen Clement, of Falmouth, Maine; step-sons, Kevin McLean, of Naples, Maine, and William McLean, of Chapel Hill, N.C.; three grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 45 years, Marilyn (Locke) MacKenzie, in 1999. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jimmy Fund. Please make checks payable to: Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place, 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445-9924.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sept. 10 at the Conte Funeral Home in Andover.

The funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 11 at the Free Christian Church in Andover.
