A memorial service is planned for Mary Rose Shulock, 88, a former resident of Vero Beach who passed away May 21.

The service will be held at Strunk Funeral Home in Vero Beach on Friday, July 2, 2010 at 11:30 a.m. Family and friends are most welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, a contribution to the Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary, 18328 Gulf Blvd., Indian Shores, FL 33785 may be made in honor of Mary Shulock.

Born Mary Rose Bogner, in Emery, Wis., on April 25, 1922, Mary was the sweet natured sister of Charles and Louis. Her parents, Rose and Charles, raised their children to be honest, thoughtful and always caring towards others.

Throughout her life, Mary exemplified those traits in both her personal and professional life. After graduating from St. Mary’s School in Pittsburgh, Mary entered the workforce as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone.

In 1941, she met and married Chester Homer. They moved to Vero Beach in 1962 where they lived until his death in 1979. When their only child, Lanore, attended elementary school, Mary was a tireless school volunteer and teachers’ aide. She loved working with the children and teachers.

She was later hired as a Media Specialist with the Indian River County School System. It was a job she adored and she worked happily in that position for 17 years until her retirement in 1985.

In 1985, Mary married her beloved second husband Walter Shulock. Theirs was a 20-year union anchored by love, deep mutual respect, humor, shared values, interests and lots of dancing.

He passed away in 2005 and in 2007 Mary moved from her lifelong home of Vero Beach to be closer to her daughter. She moved to Sun City, Florida and lived at Aston Gardens.

She leaves behind the great loves of her life: her daughter Lanore, her son-in-law Bill and their two sons, Alex and James. Her gentle presence will also be greatly missed by the four stepsons , their wives, and families: Michael (Ellen) Shulock, Jerry (Mary) Shulock, John (Cheryl) Shulock, James (Lori) Shulock, a stepdaughter and her husband, Patricia (Ron) Cooke, eleven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren she shared with Wally.

She was a member of the Golden Girls and the Klee’s organizations and valued the friendships made with these women over the years and knew her life was richer for them.
