FIT student earns honors for work for City of Vero Beach

VERO BEACH — Florida Institute of Technology student Jacqueline Vaughn has been named the Melbourne school’s intern of the year for her work last fall for the City of Vero Beach.

Vaughn, who earned a Florida Tech master’s degree in environmental resource management in 2009, worked in the Geographical Information Systems division for the city. Among her duties, she developed spatial databases and also was on a team project to locate, identify, measure, photograph and digitize images of more than 3,000 trees located on city property.

“Her diligence was a great asset to the city; she was a model intern,” said her supervisor and Geographic Information Systems Manager, Jim Kirkpatrick.
