William W. Pinkel, 85, Vero Beach

William W. Pinkel, 85, died Dec. 19, 2009, at the Indian River Medical Center.

He was born in Buffalo, N.Y. and graduated from the University of Buffalo with a bachelor of science degree in business administration.

He was a three-year veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific Theater of Operations with the 20th Air Force. He was the executive director of the National Newman Club Federation in Washington, D.C. He served for nine years as a special agent with the FBI in the Knoxville, Tenn., and New York City offices.

He retired as executive vice president of the American Cancer Society, New York State Division, Syracuse, N.Y.

He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and St. John of the Cross Catholic Church of Vero Beach, Vero Beach Country Club and former member of the Skaneateles Country Club. He was a member of the Society of Former Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigations, Inc. He was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society and VNA/Hospice in Vero Beach.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia; daughters, Joan and Deborah; son, William Jr.; sister, Bette Donovan of Buffalo, N.Y.; and 11 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan.

A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Jan. 9 at St. Helen Catholic Church, Vero Beach.
