Sawbones vs. Jawbones softball game June 29

VERO BEACH — Doctors and lawyers in this community are once more teaming up to support United Way of Indian River County and its critical community services.

The well-known Sawbones vs. Jawbones softball game will take place at Holman Stadium in the Vero Beach Sports Village, Saturday, June 29, at 5 p.m.

Tickets will be sold at the door for $5 per person or $10 for a family.

“It is wonderful to see professionals with hectic schedules of their own take time to support their community like this. They see a lot of human suffering in the work they do and understand the need for the caring network United Way provides,” said Michael Kint, CEO, United Way of Indian River County.

This baseball game used to be a tradition in town. For several years it wasn’t played, and then in 2011, it was started up again.

Both teams have won a game in the last two years, so this will be a tiebreaker.

“We’re smarter and in a lot better shape,” said Marc McCain, MD.

“But we’re more athletic,” added Bobby Guttridge from the lawyers’ team.

“Plus, doctors are too concerned about getting hurt,” explained Attorney Andy Metcalf, jokingly.

The banter promises an entertaining competition.

Event sponsors include: GRAND SLAM – Riverside Café; HOME RUN – 1st United Bank, Consulate Health, Indian River Medical Center, Law Offices of Bobby Guttridge, Options Home Health; DOUBLE – Anesthesia of Indian River, Freidenstab and Lum, PA, Grace Rehab Center of Vero Beach, LexisNexis, PNC Institutional Investments, Rossway Moore Swan, Treasure Coast Pediatrics, Vero ENT Associates, and Vero Psychiatry, PLLC.

Proceeds from the game will support the significant work of advancing the common good in the areas of education, income, and health in Indian River County.
