INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — An 81-year-old Vero Beach man died after suffering an unknown medical condition that caused a three-car crash.
Antonio Rispoli, 81, of Vero Beach, was traveling eastbound on 4th Street approaching stopped traffic at the red light at US 1, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
Vehicles driven by Sandra Gonzalez, 26, of Port St. Lucie, and Sofhia Canello, of Vero Beach, were stopped in the outside through lanes on 4th Street at US 1.
Rispoli had an unknown medical condition and continued through the intersection of US 1 and struck a raised concrete curb and traveled across a sidewalk and grass apron, according to authorities.
He then traveled across the merge lane from northbound US 1 to eastbound Indian River Boulevard. Then he struck a second raised concrete curb and traveled across a sidewalk and onto the southern grass shoulder.
After that he struck a metal signpost and came to a final rest on the southern grass shoulder facing east.
Rispoli was transported to Indian River Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
