Catherine F. Sagurton, 88, Vero Beach

Catherine F. Sagurton, 88, of Vero Beach, passed away peacefully at home on Nov. 8, 2015.

She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Edwin C. Sagurton of Vero Beach; her children Patricia Machir of New York, N.Y., Claire McGuire of Northfield, Ill., Maureen Clancey (Michael) of Dublin, Ohio, and Edwin C. Sagurton, Jr. (Eunju) of Seoul, Korea; sisters Patricia Tuohy of Vero Beach, Maryann Weir of North Barrington, Ill., and Margaret Dooley (James) of Maplewood, N.J.; along with 14 grandchildren,10 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, James Tuohy and John Tuohy.

Sagurton was born on April 20, 1927, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Patrick and Margaret Tuohy. She graduated from the Academy of Mount St. Ursula in New York City. She fell in love with Ed Sagurton after being introduced to him by her two brothers, John and Jimmy. She married Ed in 1951, and began a lifetime of supporting her husband and children. Sagurton is remembered by her family for her creative energy hosting fabulous family dinners and for her tremendous generosity.

She was a member of the Dames of Malta and the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem in New York and Vero Beach, She was an enthusiastic nine-hole golfer at the Baltusrol Golf Club, the Canoe Brook Country Club and the John’s Island Club. Generously giving of her time, she volunteered with Overlook Hospital Auxiliary as a Twig and tutored at Oak Knoll. She was an active and dedicated member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church and the Serra Club of Indian River County.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2015, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Vero Beach. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church on Friday, Nov. 13, 2015. Interment will be at John’s Island Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Strunk Funeral Home and Crematory, Vero Beach.
