INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Between Wabasso and Roseland Road, construction along the U.S. 1 corridor through North Indian River County continues into the second half of the year at a healthy pace.
Among the more visible projects:
On the west side of U.S. 1 at the corner of 87 Avenue, work continues on the 6,400-square-foot expansion of the office building that houses Drs. Deepti and Harish Sadhwani’s Quality Health Care and Wellness & Fitness Center at the southern end. Cemco Builders expects to complete the project in the next few months.
In Sebastian, the Sebastian River Area Chamber of Commerce’s Pelican Porch Visitor Center is coming along nicely, since Capp Construction began site preparation in June, says Chamber Executive Director Beth Mitchell.
“The concrete block frame of the porch is installed, and you can see the ultimate size of the porch, and of course the view to the lagoon. This week the wooden trusses for the porch roof are being installed.”
Plans are underway for the interior and, say Mitchell, “We received a $25,000 grant from the IRC Tourist Development Council for media equipment, displays, maps, interactive kiosk and a viewfinder of the porch. We’re working out the details of the floor plan, and researching information about web cams to be installed throughout the community to show our visitors some of the highlights. Potential web cam installation locations include Pelican Island, Sebastian Inlet, the Working Waterfront Project, the Stick Marsh and Blue Cypress Lake.”
Over the next couple of months, new windows, a new front door, and a sidewalk leading from the parking lot to the porch should be in.
“We are anticipating a grand opening just before season, weather permitting, and we are on track to be able to welcome our visitors by January 2016.”
Mickey Capp has a second project under way in Sebastian: The block walls are up on Sebastian Inlet Marina & Trading Co. (AKA Capt. Hiram’s) 2-story, 16-unit motel, on a .28-acre portion of its Indian River Drive Oyster Bay Condominium property, between U.S. 1 and Indian River Drive. Although weather has caused some delays, says Capp, the project remains on track to be ready for business by the opening of the 2016 Season.
According to contractor Mickey Capp, the second floor is being poured this week, “we’re setting the roof trusses this month and, even though we lost three weeks due to weather, we are planning to open Jan. 16, 2016, to be totally ready for the start of Season Feb. 1.”
At Sebastian’s north end, between St. Sebastian Catholic Church on the south side and Shady Rest mobile home park to the north, the expansive Pelican Landing Assisted Living and Memory Care is taking shape.
Watercrest Senior Living Group, the developer, owner and operator of the 65,000-square-foot 89-unit senior living community, plans to open the building to residents in the spring of 2016.
