Day Trippin’ gears up for 3 ‘cool’ museum trips

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — For the third consecutive summer, Day Trippin’ with Patti and Vicky LLC is offering affordable day trips to three “cool” museums in Florida. Museums make the perfect summer destination because they are less crowded and keep cool indoor temperatures.

First on the Cool Museum Trilogy schedule will be a trip to the popular Salvador Dali Museum in St. Petersburg to see the summer exhibit, “Dali & Da Vinci – Where Minds, Machines and Masterpieces Meet,” on Thursday, July 16.

Following the morning tour at the Dali, the group will enjoy lunch at the Hanger Restaurant and Flight Lounge before heading to the Florida Orange Groves Winery in St. Petersburg for a tour and tasting. Cost is $90 per person and includes bus transportation, museum admission and winery tour and tasting. Lunch will be charged separately. The bus will depart from the IHOP Restaurant in Vero Beach at 7:30 a.m. and return at approximately 8 p.m.

Get “mummified” on Aug. 12, when the Day Trippers travel to Orlando to see a special summer exhibit, “Mummies of the World” at the Orlando Science Center. The exhibit includes a collection of more than 45 human and animal mummies, plus related artifacts from South America, Europe and ancient Egypt.

“Mummies of the World” reveals how the scientific study of mummies provides a window into the lives of ancient people, as well as explains what a mummy is and how mummification occurs. Cost is $80 per person and includes bus transportation and museum and exhibit admission. Lunch at the museum will be charged separately. The bus will depart Vero Beach from the IHOP Restaurant on State Road 60 near I-95 at 8:30 a.m. and return at approximately 6 p.m.

The Sept. 30 trip will offer “When Science Meets Art” at the Elliott Museum in Stuart where Day Trippers will see the combined works of renowned scientist, Dr. Edith Widder, and popular California artist, Steven Bernstein. The unique exhibit, “Illuminating the Deep: Glimpsing the Largest and Least Known Ecosystem on Earth,” will only be on display at the Elliott Museum from August through October of this year. The Day Trippers will enjoy lunch at the Dolphin Bar and Shrimp House in Stuart. Cost is $75 per person and includes bus transportation and museum and exhibit admission. Lunch will be charged separately. There will be two bus pickup sites, one in Vero Beach and the other in Fort Pierce. Sites and times to be determined.
