VERO BEACH – The landscape of US 1 in Vero Beach has changed a lot over the years. As new businesses have moved in, structures have been added and existing buildings have been remodeled. Indian River Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore joined the landscape in 2005. The original 30,000-square-foot structure included a retail space, office and donation warehouse.
Just over 10 years later, the building received a major makeover, including the addition of 9,500 square feet and the ReStore tower, which now serves as a beacon to volunteers, donors and shoppers.
This addition was recently recognized by The Indian River County Chamber of Commerce on Thursday, Sept. 21, during The Industry Appreciation Awards Luncheon. Winning an “Architectural Recognition” award in the category of Large Building Renovation Non-Profit, the ReStore has cemented itself among Vero Beach’s expanding architecture.
Local businesses involved in the renovation included Anthony J. Mazza Architects & Planners P.A., Aiello Landscape Inc., M.B.V. Engineering Inc., and Pinnacle Construction.
Over 200 people attended the awards luncheon, which recognized a total of 18 businesses.
Indian River Habitat for Humanity’s CEO, Andrew Bowler along with Director of Community Development, Eve Kyomya, ReStore General Manager, Sheradi Monroe, Board President, Connie Poppell, and other board members were present at the Industry Appreciation Awards Luncheon to accept the award.
“I am immediately drawn back to Habitat’s mission whenever someone asks me about the ReStore’s expansion,” says Sheradi Monroe, General Manager of Habitat’s ReStore in Vero Beach. “Yes, I am thrilled about the additional space and the much-needed improvements we have made. Not only have these changes enhanced the donor, volunteer and shopper experience but most importantly, these changes are helping Indian River Habitat for Humanity serve even more families.”
One of out every three Habitat homes is built by funds generated by the ReStore.
The store, located at 4580 N. US 1 in Vero Beach, is open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
