Alberta Clark Schober, of Vero Beach, passed away on Feb. 15, 2015, at the Indian River Medical Center.
She is survived by her daughter Bette Walsh of Vero Beach and son John (Barbara) Hendrickson of Howell Twp, N.J.; grandsons John of San Francisco, Calif., and Erik of Howell; nephew Don (Valerie) Wagner and little Lang of New York City; stepchildren Brian Schober of New York City, Bonnie (Steve) Cohen of Stuart; and grandsons Alex and Jared Cohen and families.
She was predeceased by her husband Max Schober of Vero Beach and sister Jean Clark Wagner of Nutley, N.J.
Schober was born in Newark, N.J., the daughter of Franklin and Gertrude Clark. On her father’s side, she was a descendant of the Honorable Abraham Clark who represented the State of New Jersey in the Continental Congress and signing the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Other ancestors were active in the Revolutionary War. She became a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution in 2011.
In New Jersey, Schober was employed at Dumont Labs which was bought by Fairchild Camera & Instrument Corp. At Dumont/Fairchild she rose to be Chief Accountant of the R&D and Engineering Divisions at a time when few women were in positions of that level. After retiring from the firm she established her own tax and accounting company at the Jersey Shore.
Schober was married in 1939 to Tage Hendrickson, with whom she had a daughter Bette and son John. Following divorce she met and married Max Schober, a fellow accountant. She and Max then formed a new partnership into which her tax and accounting business was incorporated. The business grew rapidly. After several years she and Max sold it and moved to Vero Beach.
A faithful member of First Presbyterian Church of Vero, Schober served as Deacon and sang in the choir. Despite her advancing eyesight problems she managed to telephone people on the church’s prayer list for several years. She was also an active sponsor for Save the Children and World Vision, sponsoring children in Appalachia and Zambia, Africa. A long-time member of the National Association of Accountants, she was one of the first women officers of that organization. In Vero she was twice elected to the Board of Directors of Vista Royale Association where she served as Treasurer. She was also a member of various golf clubs in New Jersey and in Vero Beach.
A celebration of her life will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 520 Royal Palm Blvd, Vero Beach 32960, on April 18, at 11 a.m., with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution to the Associate Pastor Fund at First Presbyterian Church in Alberta’s memory.
