Rose Caughey, 90, formerly of Vero Beach

Rose Caughey, 90, of Westbrook, formerly of Lawrence, Mass., and Vero Beach, passed away on Jan. 30, 2015, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.

She is survived by her three children Karl F. Wolf of Reston, Va., Rhonda St. Laurent (Ray) of Kennebunkport, Maine, and Paul J. Wolf (Judy) of Arundel, Maine; sister Grace Zehfuss (Louis) who reside in California; six grandchildren, Karl E. Wolf, Kirstin Kurlander, Brad and Mark St. Laurent, Caitlin and Lindsay Wolf; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her to brothers Anthony and Alfred Cedro.

She was born in Lawrence, Mass., on Feb. 3, 1924, a daughter of James and Josephine (Fichera) Cedro. Caughey grew up in Lawrence and graduated from Lawrence High School. She met her future husband in Lawrence, Karl F. Wolf, Sr. They were married in 1942 and lived in Salem, N.H. where they raised their three children.

Karl predeceased her in 1977. She later married Jack Caughey. They resided in Florida until his death in 2007. In 2014, she moved to Maine to be near two of her three children and to enter an assisted living facility.

During Caughey’s lifetime, she worked as a librarian in the Salem Town Library and Woodbury Junior High. She was also a radio announcer for WEEI, a local Lawrence, Mass., station. She was an active volunteer with various organizations including the Cub Scouts, Harbor Branch Oceanographic Organization of Florida Atlantic University, the New Hampshire Republican Party, and Christ Presbyterian Church in Lawrence, Mass. She received a number of awards for her dedicated volunteer service.

Caughey loved the ocean and spent a great deal of time at Hills Beach, Maine as well as on the coast of Florida.

A private Memorial Service will take place later this spring and Rose will be laid to rest in Salem, N.H. in a family plot.
