George William Schardt, 87, of Vero Beach, passed away peacefully on Dec. 23, 2014, at the Hospice House in Vero Beach.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Joan MacWilliam Schardt; four loving children, Billy Schardt (Barbara), Jenae Collins (Clay), Suzy Bloch, and Megan Hedin (Norman); sister, Jane Burkett of Texas; and seven grandchildren, Clayton Collins, Bobby Schardt, Carrie Collins Boudrias, Michael and Matthew Bloch, Hannah and Sarah Hedin; and three great-grandchildren.
Schardt was born in Charleston, S.C. on Jan. 13, 1927, to George and Sarah Schardt and has lived in Vero Beach since 1948.
He served our country in the United States Army and was a founding member of the Vero Beach Elks Club. Schardt was President of Russell Concrete, where he worked for 38 years. Friends may visit on Saturday, Dec. 27, at 10 a.m. at Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home in Vero Beach.
