Carolyn Hills, 61, of Vero Beach, died July 23, 2014.

Mother Carolyn Wright-Hills the wife of our beloved staff member the Rev. Johnnie Hills, transitioned from earth to glory while surrounded by the love of her family in the early morning hours of Wednesday July 23, 2014, at Indian River Medical Center. She is now resting from her labor in the presence of the Lord.

Mother Carolyn Hills was born on July 4, 1953, in Columbia, S. Ca., to the late Johnnie Benjamin Wright and Maggie Lee Denmark.

Carolyn lived in Fort Pierce for 60 years. She attended St. Lucie County Public Schools and received her Associates Degree from Webster College. She was a Certified Nursing Assistant for many years and also an Assisted Living Group Home Manager until she became disabled. She also was a foster parent to many children within the St. Lucie County area.

She grew up as a member of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church where she served as the president of the youth choir for many years. She then joined her husband at Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church where she served as First Lady. She recently joined Holy Ghost Deliverance and served as a Mother of the church under the leadership of Pastor Gwendolyn Reeves.

Those left to cherish her precious memories are her loving husband, Rev. Johnnie Hills; her sons, Johnnie (Peggy) Hills, Jr., and Jahmal Hills; her daughters, Melissa (Dwayne) Wright Pittman of Vero Beach, Shanay (Nicholas) Samuels, and Kahdejah Hills, of Vero Beach; her mother, Maggie Lee Denmark; her brothers, Johnnie B. (Janie)Wright, Norman Wright, Freddie (Bernice) Wright, and Timothy (Barrye) Wright; her sisters, Betty (Benjamin) Prince and Sharon Williams; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Aug. 1, 2014, 3 – 7 p.m., at Holy Ghost Deliverance Church, 1919 North 25th Street, Ft. Pierce.

A Home Going Celebration will be conducted Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014, 11 a.m., St. Paul AME Church in Ft. Pierce.

A burial will be in Sarah’s Memorial Gardens.
