VERO BEACH — A Vero Beach man faces charges of trafficking cocaine, possession of Xanax, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and ammunition by a convicted felon, according to the Vero Beach Police Department.
Jamaal Edwards, 30, was arrested in the 800 block of 19th Street in Vero Beach, Friday around 11 p.m., according to authorities.
The Vero Beach Police Special Investigation Unit executed a warrant at the location and found Edwards in one of the bedrooms, according to the report.
Det. Van Dhuynslager saw a clear plastic bag lying on the bed in the room where Edwards was located. Four grams of marijuana, weighed with the packaging, was found inside of the bag along with a half of a Xanax pill.
Edwards said the marijuana and the pill belonged to him, according to authorities. Edwards also told authorities he did not have a prescription for the Xanax.
A DEA Agent located a clear plastic bag containing 57 grams of cocaine, weighed with the packaging, under the bed. The 57 grams exceeds the minimum of 28 grams for trafficking cocaine according to Florida State Statute 893.13.
During the search, Det. Van Dhuynslager found two boxes of Winchester Super X Rifled Slugs 410 Caliber in a black bag, according to the report.
Edwards has eight prior felony convictions. Money was also found in a Bible on the television stand amounting to $540. A plastic bag of unused needles and a metal grinder with marijuana was located in the television stand drawer, along with a clear plastic pipe that Edwards said he used to smoke marijuana. A digital scale was also located on the window ledge.
A clear plastic bag containing 12 grams of marijuana was also found on the living room table, according to authorities.
Edwards is being held on $117,500 bond at the Indian River County Jail.
