VERO BEACH — The Vero Beach Opera presents Orff’s epic “Carmina Burana” on Sunday April 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Center, 1707 16th St., Vero Beach.
This performance features the Brevard Symphony Orchestra and the Brevard Adult Community and Children’s Chorus, along with soloists Amy Maples, Brian Cheney, and Michael Hix, conducted by Maestro Christopher Confessore.
The Brevard Community Chorus is a volunteer organization of 100-plus voices that was formed in 1969 and has toured internationally.
The Brevard Children’s Chorus has been performing since 2004. The chorus offers a unique musical and educational experience in a group setting. Members are selected by audition and rehearse and perform from September through May.
Amy Maples is a soprano from scenic Chattanooga, Tenn. Quickly gaining a reputation for her crystalline coloratura, relentless high notes, and witty theatrics, Maples compels audiences with her fearless artistry.
Brian Cheney is emerging as one of opera’s most exciting tenors. Following his debut at Carnegie Hall in 2007, he has been performing concert works and oratorio throughout the country. Critics have observed “Cheney sang with lustrous radiance that illuminated the text at every point. One became hypnotized with both his tone and expression.”
Baritone Michael Hix has been praised by critics for his “expressive voice” and “commanding stage presence.” His career highlights include a solo and chamber performances at Tanglewood Music Center and a solo appearance with the Boston Pops in “Bernstein on Broadway.”
The Brevard Symphony Orchestra has entertained and enriched individuals and communities by creating exceptional, live symphonic music since 1954.
