INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Local educator Jorge Lugo will be the guest speaker at Saturday’s ceremony awarding college scholarships to graduating seniors from Vero Beach, Sebastian River and Indian River Charter high schools.
The annual event is sponsored by the Democratic Women’s Club of Indian River County. This year, five students will receive $1,000 scholarships.
A member of the Executive Board of the Indian River County Education Association, Lugo teaches advanced placement and general courses in U.S. History, American Government and Macroeconomics at Sebastian River High School. He taught World Cultures at Sebastian River Middle School prior to joining the SRHS faculty in 2012.
Lugo, who is seeking a seat in the state legislature, holds degrees in secondary education and history from Lebanon Valley College in Annville, Penn. He is a member of the Florida Education Association’s Government Relations Committee, as well as the School District of Indian River County’s Health Insurance Advisory Task Force. He also serves on the Executive Board of Florida’s AFL-CIO.
