VERO BEACH — Now on exhibit at the Foyer Gallery of Art are paintings by Julie Lounibos, many reflecting the beauty and style of Old Florida, including many river scenes. The Foyer Gallery of Art is open at the Emerson Center Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and when the Emerson Center is open for a public program.
Julie Lounibos is a Florida native, raised along the banks of the Indian River Lagoon. She has been painting seriously for the last eight years after retiring as a career nurse. Primarily self-taught as a painter, Lounibos has studied art at University of Florida, Indian River State College, and has taken various local classes and workshops.
The subjects of her art are varied. Mangroves, which grow along the riverbanks, have always intrigued her and are featured often in Julie’s paintings. The spindly roots of the red mangroves create a nurturing environment for young fish and help to control erosion and water quality.
The reflections of these sculpture-like aerial roots create a beautiful design in the surrounding waters that inspire the artist. She enjoys taking photos for painting while kayaking along the pristine shallow waters where motored boats have no access.
Lounibos’s art has been displayed at various galleries, including Vero Beach Museum of Art, Gallery 14, Artist Guild Gallery, Backus Art Gallery and Museum, and Art Mundo. Her art is privately owned across the USA and internationally.
She maintains a studio gallery in Fort Pierce at the Orange Avenue Studios located in historic downtown Fort Pierce, near the Indian River.
The Emerson Center is located at 1590 27th Avenue, on the southeast corner of 27th Avenue and 16th Street, in Vero Beach.
