John Beierl Shults, 89, of Vero Beach, died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013, at his home.
Shults was born Aug. 9, 1924, in Buffalo, N.Y.
His parents were Dr. Norbert C. Shults and Dorothy Beierl Shults.
He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Anne Coyle Shults.
Shults was a 1943 graduate of St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute in Buffalo and a lifelong supporter of the school.
Shults served his country during World War II as a member of the United States Navy.
He was a radio operator aboard LSM 264 and was at the Battle of Iwo Jima.
Shults and his wife were members of Holy Cross Catholic Church.
Survivors include a sister, Audry C. Sibble; many nieces and nephews; friends Bob and Norma Jean Beierl; and his faithful companion, Gracie.
Services will be held at a later date in Buffalo, N.Y.
Arrangements are by Strunk Funeral Home and Crematory, Vero Beach.
