VERO BEACH — Vero Beach Sports Village (VBSV) will once again play host to the RBI Baseball and Softball Southeast Regional Tournament this weekend, July 18-21.
This event, sponsored by Treasure Coast Sports Commission, is the southeastern World Series Qualifier for Major League Baseball’s (MLB) Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) program.
The tournament is divided into three divisions: softball (ages 19 and younger,) junior baseball (ages 13-15,) and senior baseball (ages 16-18.) Participating teams are from Alabama, Florida, and Georgia.
All teams will enjoy an opening night poolside cookout and bonfire at the Western BBQ pit area on-site at VBSV on Thursday, July 18. Games will begin Friday, July 19, at 9 a.m.
The event is free and open to the public.
Champions of this weekend’s qualifier will advance to the RBI World Series, which will be hosted by the Minnesota Twins in St. Paul, MN from August 3-14.
RBI is a MLB youth outreach program, founded in 1989 by former player and scout John Young, designed to increase participation and interest in baseball and softball among underprivileged youth.
The program has already given over 1 million youth the opportunity to participate in baseball and softball programs in their communities.
