Great Duck Derby May 19

SEBASTIAN — Local philanthropy pays for the testing of over 100 financially, needy women resulting in the detection of breast cancer in five women; more than expected.

The Women’s Healthcare Safety Net Fund is the beneficiary of local philanthropy in many forms, including the upcoming Great Duck Derby.

The first Great Duck Derby (www.TheGreatDuckDerby.com) is coming to Indian River County on May 19. Thousands of rubber ducks will race in Indian River County in this low cost of entry family friendly event.

Thousands of bright yellow ducks, known as racers, will be dropped offshore into the lagoon at Captain Hiram’s resort at 3 p.m. Racers will be moved by paddle boards, jet skis, swimmers, and by other means, to the finish line.

The winner will get $2,500 in cash, and other prizes will be awarded to subsequent finishers. Ducks can be adopted as single for only $5 or in Quack Packs and get free extra ducks.

Adoptions can be done easily and quickly online at the above mentioned website, any Seacoast Bank locations in Indian River and Brevard counties, Captain Hiram’s, and other locations throughout the county (website provides a complete list.)

100% of the proceeds will go to the Women’s Healthcare Safety Net Fund. Over the last few months we have provided screening mammograms to 103 women and diagnosed 5 with breast cancer; none of them knew it or had the resources to be tested.

We are paying for:

· Screening mammograms

· Diagnostic mammograms

· Breast ultrasounds

· Needle biopsies when required

· PAP smears
